School Status - Alyssa and Megan

I was just as worried if not more so about the first day of school for the girls. They had been home with me for a little over a year! We did all the same things we did with Drew, brought them by their school multiple times, introduced them to some friends that would be going there, played on the playground, talk about how exciting it would be, etc...They genuinely were excited. The caveat was their school would teach them in Dutch. Try to explain this to two three year olds. I said, "you are going to learn Dutch." Alyssa said "I already know how to say "Dutch"". No I said it is a new language. Blank stares. Megan, "I already know how to say 'Dutch" too." Meanwhile Drew overhears this conversation and exclaims, "The teachers are going to speak Dutch!!?" I said yes all excitedly giving Drew the evil eye. Drew's mouth hangs open. Thank God the girls didn't get it.

The first day of school for Megan and Alyssa started out great. We were able to take some pictures of them (see below) and get them into their room without tears or fighting or anything. When we left them it was awful! They screamed bloody murder. They stopped screaming after about a minute but were really sad/mad for a good ten minutes. (Rick and I hung out in the school yard for a while and kept peeking in) Then they watched other kids play for a long time before they played at all themselves. By the time I picked them up at noon they were sitting happily in circle time listening to the teacher. We had a few issues with snack and using the toilet but we worked them all out. They now are six days into school and they really seem to love it. They still give me a hard time in the morning leaving the house but once they're at school they do great. They are so proud of themselves when they don't get sad and when one of them does the other does the comforting, so they tell me.

So far they don't seem to be bothered by the language barrier. Megan says two words from school but no one, including Megan, knows what the words mean. I'm sure they'll pick it up and then they might actually have a secret language between them.
